She studied Management of Marine Ecosystems at Wageningen University and obtained her PhD there in 2015 on a study of the effect of mussel seed capture installations on plankton in the Wadden Sea.
During and after her PhD research she worked for WMR and NIOZ on pelagic and benthic primary production, phytoplankton and different species of shellfish such as mussels, flat oysters and cockles.
Her expertise lies in the interaction between shellfish and microalgae, experimental research and ecology.
