The transition from an economy that runs on fossil raw materials to one in which these have made way for biomass as a raw material is necessary.
However, this transition goes hand in hand with many challenges in terms of knowledge. The biobased economy is therefore an important theme for HZ University of Applied Sciences. The HZ's practice-based research on this theme focuses mainly on the use of bio-based materials in construction. Within this, the focus is on the use of agro-residuals from the region, such as flax, reed, straw and weed.
