Gerda Andringa

Gerda Andringa was appointed on 1 September 2020 as lecturer of the HZ University of Applied Sciences' Elderly Care research group. She is also associate professor of cognitive neuroscience at University College Roosevelt (UCR).

She obtained her PhD in 2000 on new treatment strategies for Parkinson's disease. She then worked as a visiting scientist at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke in Bethesda, USA, and as a lecturer at the Department of Medical Pharmacology at VU University Amsterdam.
In recent years, she has focused on interventions and technological aids for the elderly, especially people with dementia. Gerda won the 2020 Teacher of the Year election at Utrecht University. The jury praised Gerda for working closely with students on her research. She is not afraid to 'create a learning and working environment in which she challenges them to work hard and get the best out of themselves', but she also gives students room to make mistakes. This is how she gets the best out of them.
