In the spring of 2022, HZ students conducted research into the possibilities of an energy hub at Arnestein in which sustainable energy is generated on site, exchanged between companies, and used for electric (freight) transport. As a result of this research and contact with various entrepreneurs at Arnestein, the municipality of Middelburg starts a feasibility study to realize the Arnestein smart grid. The HZ lectorate Delta Power participates in this feasibility study. The study consists of three parts: 1. Design of a charging area for electric trucks, including a grid connection 2. Research into the feasibility and support among entrepreneurs for an Energy Management System in which companies' energy consumption is geared to the supply of sustainable energy and to the local energy storage. 3. Research into a smart grid in which companies exchange electricity (possibly with a so-called direct line outside the public grid), cold and heat.
