For the fourteenth year in a row, HZ is one of the best universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands. The Keuzegids hbo 2024 shows that the HZ occupies second place in the top 3 of 'best medium-sized universities of applied sciences'. The HZ moved up one place in the ranking compared to last year and has a nice institution score of 74 points. As many as half of the assessed HZ study programmes - 17 out of 34 - were rated as 'top study programmes'.

Ten study programmes are best in the Netherlands
Once again, HZ scores very well in the rankings based on student opinions from the National Student Survey (NSE), labour market figures and study success figures such as dropout and success rate.* Ten HZ programmes can call themselves the best in the Netherlands. Among the Bachelor's programmes, these are Pedagogy, Social Work, Commercial Economics, International Business, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Global Project & Change Management and Maritime Officer. Associate degree programmes (two-year hbo programmes) involve Built Environment and Engineering. The latter two programmes are provided at the Associate degrees Academy in Roosendaal. This is a collaboration between Avans University of Applied Sciences and HZ University of Applied Sciences.

Quality seal for top study programmes
In addition to the above-mentioned scores, seventeen HZ study programmes can also call themselves top study programmes in their category - i.e. of all universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands - this year. Top courses have more than 75 points and may use a quality seal. They are:

  • In the social domain, the Bachelor's programmes Primary Education Teacher, Pedagogy, Social Work, Nursing.
  • In the economic domain, the Bachelor's programmes in Communication, Human Resource Management and International Business.
  • In the technical domain, the Bachelor's programmes in Civil Engineering, Global Project & Change Management, Maritime Officer, Technical Business Administration and Water Management.
  • Of the Associate degrees (a separate category), these are Health & Social Work and Pedagogical Educational Professional from the HZ location in Vlissingen. In addition, it concerns the HZ licenses Built Environment, Engineering and Health & Social Work from the Associate degrees Academy in Roosendaal.

Appreciation
Barbara Oomen, president of the Executive Board, is extremely proud that HZ is once again among the top universities in the Netherlands. "This means that our students highly value our personal college, the practice-oriented education and personal guidance," said Barbara Oomen, chairman of the Executive Board. "The fact that we have achieved such a great result for 14 years in a row says something about the consistent quality. That is worth a big compliment to all HZ employees who make this possible. We will therefore celebrate the results in a festive way with staff and students."

Next Thursday: festive treat for students and staff
On Thursday 12 October, students and staff will be treated at both HZ locations, between 10.00 and 13.00. Will you come along?

*Keuzegids
The Keuzegids hbo 2024 is compiled by an independent editorial team. The Keuzegids contains a systematic quality comparison of related programmes in higher education. The editors work information from reliable sources, such as student ratings from the National Student Survey (NSE), labour market figures from the Research Centre for Research and the Labour Market (ROA) and study success figures from the Association of Universities of Applied Sciences. All information on the guide, rankings and methodology can be found at www.keuzegids.nl. The medium-sized universities of applied sciences category includes 14 universities of applied sciences. It only includes institutions that offer at least four programmes in two different subject areas.
