Driven from a young age with a keen interest in nature, Demian Zwaan graduated from Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences in Leeuwarden in 2020 on improving nutrient media for the macro-algae Chaetomorpha linum and Gracilariopsis longissima.

Within the Coastal and Marine Management program, he completed a master's degree in marine biology and specialization in aquaculture and fisheries. He completed several internships at De Jong Marinelife B.V. in Spijk. Here he worked on the operation of RAS/filtration systems, water quality and the cultivation of copepods such as Acartia tonsa.
In early 2022, Demian joined the Aquaculture in Delta Areas research group as a researcher. His work is mainly focused on optimization for breeding oysters and maintenance and improvement of the SEAlab, among others.
