The study programme Civil Engineering allows Ines from Italy to combine mathematical subjects with her creativity. She explains about the practical approach of the study programme and the real life cases she works on with a team of fellow students.
Why did you choose to study Civil Engineering?
Because it's quite a challenging field. I'm a very creative person, and I really like mathematical subjects, so studying Civil Engineering allows me to combine the two. Dutch people are pioneers in Civil Engineering all over the world, so I decided to come here to learn from the best.
How would you describe the study approach at HZ?
The study at HZ has quite a practical approach. Every semester, we work on one real-life project, and every block, we receive portfolios with real problems. In teams of four to seven people, we learn to cooperate and find the best solutions. We also work with real-life clients, which means we have to communicate with them to better understand the problems we are assigned. So yes, it's very practical.
How do you experience student life at HZ?
Studying at HZ is actually very fun. You get to know people from all over the world, and everything feels very personal because it’s not a large-scale university. But at the same time, it's still very exciting.
What are your future plans?
Once I graduate from HZ, I would like to continue my career in Coastal Engineering. It’s quite rare to have this subject at a bachelor's level, and it has allowed me to discover this amazing field.
