The name of HZ University of Applied Sciences may have appeared on the screen in The Hague, but it was in fact Scalda, University College Roosevelt, and HZ together who won the second prize of the Dutch Education Award (NRO). The educational institutions received the award for the Joint Research Center Zeeland (JRCZ). The NRO award is the highest honor in secondary vocational education and higher education.

The award ceremony took place on Tuesday, July 1, during the Comenius Festival in The Hague, an event focused on educational innovation. The second prize comes with an amount of 800,000 euros. Among those present at the ceremony were Lilian Hoogwerf-van der Linde, Leo Blok, Sam Dieleman, Alexei Karas, Jacomine Ravensbergen, Gerda Andringa, Patricia de Bruyckere, Daphne Zerbib-Jasperse, Pieter Jasperse, and Patrick van Schaik.

The JRCZ received the award for its collaboration with students from vocational (mbo), applied sciences (hbo), and academic (wo) education on societal missions in makerspaces. In these JRCZ makerspaces, students from across the educational spectrum work on challenges in the fields of water, energy, and food, alongside teachers, researchers, and professionals.

his work is based on the principles of challenge-based education and technology-enhanced learning. In this way, students are prepared beyond the boundaries of programs and disciplines for a world in transition.

Windesheim University of Applied Sciences won the top education award for the project 'Ready for the nursing internship thanks to the immersive simulation space'. The third prize went to ' He Healthy & Well' from Utrecht University of Applied Sciences.
