Jacob van Berkel takes center stage on Thursday, October 9, at the HZ Discovery Café in Middelburg.
In one of his final appearances as professor of applied science of Delta Power, he will deliver a passionate talk on one of the most important topics for the Southwest Delta: ´Pressing Questions -Dilemmas in the Energy Transition'. As we have come to expect from him, this lecture will also be full of insights, humor, 'at least one formula' and plenty of interaction with the audience. Jacob will raise questions such as: 'Are we energy slaves or addicted to energy?' 'What is sustainable and what is not?' 'Do we use our scarce space mainly for food or for energy?' and 'Energy transport in molecules or electrons?'
This time, the café will take place at the JRCZ in Middelburg. Doors open at 3.30 p.m. Jacob will start at 4 p.m. You can register for the café via this link.
Thema's van Delta Power
On November 2, 2017, Jacob delivered his inaugural lecture as professor of applied science of Delta Power. In his characteristic way, he then outlined the development of energy supply in deltas, the energy transition, and the role of energy from water. In the following years, his research group grew considerably. Together with his fellow researchers, he worked on studies into tidal energy, offshore wind energy, green hydrogen, and the heat transition. Jacob’s successor as professor is Edwin Tazelaar.
This is the first edition after the summer holidays. As in previous academic years, we will organize the HZ Discovery Café once every (approximately) six weeks. Researchers share their work in a warm, informal atmosphere and reflect on current events. The event alternates between Middelburg and Vlissingen. Everyone interested in research in and for the region is most welcome.
