Rianne de Pooter

Rianne de Pooter is a lecturer and testing expert at HZ University of Applied Sciences.

Rianne graduated as a primary school teacher in 1990. However her dream job was teaching future primary school teachers, so she first obtained her bachelor's degree in Pedagogy in Rotterdam and taught at Albeda College and than obtained her Master of Education at the University at Greenwich. For this course she conducted research into important factors in supervising student research. In 2005 Rianne became a teacher training teacher at the teacher training college at Fontys University of Applied Sciences, subsequently at Hogeschool de Kempel in Helmond and at HZ University of Applied Sciences. She teaches research classes here and is a testing expert.

During her career Rianne has built up both practical and research expertise in supervising student research in higher professional education. Among other things she conducted research into the development of evaluative judgement: learning to recognize the quality in one's own work and that of others. To achieve this students need to read a lot, compare and rank texts and learn to give each other feedback.

She is currently conducting research into the guidance of students during research: what does support mean for students, what do they get out of it and what form of support is the most successful? 'I notice that many HBO students experience research as a complex skill, for which good guidance is very important. How we can best prepare, guide and support students in graduation research, how we can teach them research skills and how we take them into an investigative professional attitude remain recurring questions.' By gaining insight into the relationship between supervision style and student motivation, she hopes to be able to make recommendations to graduation supervisors that stimulate motivation during graduation research.
