Jacob van Berkel to bid farewell to HZ University of Applied Sciences on Tuesday, 25 November. A farewell reception for Jacob van Berkel will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the HZ Café in Vlissingen.

Jacob was inaugurated in 2016 as Professor of the Delta Power research group. He began as a one-man initiative focused on the theme of energy from water. Since then, he has shaped the research group in his own distinctive way, working closely with colleagues. The focus soon broadened to encompass the Zeeland energy system, addressing issues such as grid congestion, green hydrogen, and sustainable heating for the built environment. Alongside his part-time position at HZ, Jacob has also been an entrepreneur, advising businesses, governments, and research institutions on sustainable energy technologies.

Commuting

Jacob has always commuted between his home in the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and Middelburg and Vlissingen. He never saw this as a problem and always enjoyed his work. According to him, his research group has now “matured” and deserves a full-time successor. Edwin Tazelaar has already taken up the role. Jacob is retiring and looks forward to spending more time with his family, hobbies, work, and leisure.

No gifts, but a donation

Jacob’s farewell will take place on Tuesday, 25 November, in the HZ Café in Vlissingen, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Registration is possible via the website. Instead of gifts, Jacob would appreciate a donation to either the Zeeuwse Milieufederatie (ZMf) or the KNRM.
