The first HZ Discovery Café of 2026 will take place on Tuesday, February 24, at 4 p.m. Researcher Sybren Slimmen will talk about his doctoral research on the mental health of students and young adults in the HZ Tower in Vlissingen.
How does it affect students when expectations pile up, social contacts change, and the world around them becomes uncertain? Would you like to attend? Please register via this website.
In his doctoral research, Sybren is investigating the mental well-being of students in the period from the coronavirus pandemic to the present. He shows how changes in the social environment (both offline and online) are related to how students feel and function. What is unique about this research is that students are not only participants, but also actively contribute ideas about what is going on and what can help.
Healthy Region
Sybren is a researcher at the Healthy Region Research Group at HZ University of Applied Sciences and is pursuing his PhD at the Open University.
After his presentation, there will be plenty of time for questions and the opportunity to catch up with each other over snacks and drinks.
During the HZ Discovery Café, researchers from HZ talk about their work in a relaxed, informal atmosphere and share their insights on current events. It takes place alternately in Middelburg and Vlissingen. Anyone interested in research in and for the region is welcome to attend.
