The Maritime Officer program at HZ University of Applied Sciences is organizing a meeting on Thursday, October 17, about the challenges of salvaging the sunken Russian submarine Kursk. The guest speaker is Frans van Seumeren, director of the salvage company Mammoet and well-known to the general public as the chairman of FC Utrecht. Maritime Officer students, alumni of the Nautical School, teachers, prospective students, and other interested parties are all welcome.

The Kursk sank in 2000 in the Barents Sea near Russia. It was a high-tech nuclear submarine. Initially, it seemed impossible to salvage this submarine in the treacherous Barents Sea. However, against all odds, the Van Seumeren brothers managed to tame the Barents Sea. Frans van Seumeren will share his fascinating story about the salvage of the Russian nuclear submarine. He will provide insights into the commercial, cultural, and organizational aspects of the salvage operation.
