Angelo de Nood won the Built Environment Award on Wednesday, October 9. It is a prize for the best thesis by an HZ student in the field of the built environment.
With the award, the Civil Engineering graduate earned a thousand euros. In addition to Angelo, Nynke Lukasse (Water Management) and Remco van Daele (Architecture) were also nominated. Angelo wrote a report on the most suitable quay construction for the Maritime Service Port Northern Flevoland, a new port located outside the dike along the Zuidermeerdijk near Urk. Angelo spoke with stakeholders, reviewed regulations, and explored various constructions, ultimately developing five potential options with a suitability analysis. In the end, he recommended the best option: an anchored sheet pile wall with a pile mattress system.
Multiple perspectives
The jury of the Built Environment Award praised Angelo for considering multiple perspectives in his report, as well as for his attention to circularity and reusability. Angelo wrote his thesis on behalf of the company Waterland Projecten and was supervised by HZ lecturer Joachim de Keijzer. The award was presented during Built Environment Day at HZ and the JRCZ in Middelburg.
This was the second edition of the event for students, lecturers, researchers, and industry professionals. The built environment of the future in Zeeland is the central theme of this annual day. Frank Huijben, who will be inaugurated as lector of Biobased Construction on Thursday, October 17, delivered the keynote speech. Additionally, there was a large business fair where hundreds of students and dozens of entrepreneurs engaged in discussions.
