On Thursday March 19, 2026, the Architecture, Civil Engineering and Water Management programmes at HZ University of Applied Sciences will organise the third edition of Built Environment Day.

This is a day on which students and lecturers from these programmes come together with professionals from the field to look at the built environment of the future. It is no coincidence that the slogan for this edition is “Building the future together”. The event will take place at HZ University of Applied Sciences (HZ) and the Joint Research Centre Zeeland (JRCZ) at Het Groene Woud in Middelburg.

Keynote speech and award ceremony

The day consists of several parts. There will be a keynote speech by an expert from the field, the Built Environment Award will be presented to a student with the most innovative, future-proof idea, and there will be a business market where interns and organisations can meet. New this year are a number of interesting workshops! There will also be plenty of opportunities for networking.

Programme

The programme runs from 1 PM to 5.30 PM and is as follows.

  • 1 PM – Doors open with coffee and tea
  • 1.30 PM – Opening in the auditorium
  • 1.40 PM – Keynote speech: Prof. Anne Loes Nillessen, Professor of Urban Design
  • 2 PM – Built Environment Award pitches
  • 2.30 PM – Business market and various workshops
  • 4 PM – Built Environment Award ceremony
  • 4.15 PM – Networking with snacks and drinks
  • 5.30 PM – End of Built Environment Day

Business market and sponsorship

In order to fund Built Environment Day, we are working with sponsorship packages for this edition. By participating in the business market with your organisation, you can make this day possible by choosing a sponsorship package. We are offering 20 sponsorship packages for €150.00 and five sponsorship packages for €300.00. More information about the contents of the sponsorship package can be found in the registration form. A total of 25 sponsored places are available for organisations that wish to participate in the business market.

Special meeting with HZ Nexus

Prior to Built Environment Day, there will be a special meeting between HZ Nexus and the study programmes. HZ Nexus will take you through the opportunities for collaboration with HZ for your organisation. In addition, students from various study programmes will talk about their experiences with real-life case studies. This meeting will take place from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM in Het Groene Woud and will be concluded with lunch. When registering, please indicate separately whether you wish to attend this meeting.
