The HZ Asset Management and Data Science research groups are collaborating with the province of Zeeland, Istimewa Elektro, and World Class Maintenance on a Fieldlab CAMINO testing ground around the Zeelandbrug. The aim of the project is to plan maintenance of the bridge in a smarter and more efficient way, with the ultimate goal of 100 per cent predictable maintenance.

The Zeelandbrug was built in the 1960s. Proper maintenance is essential to ensure that the bridge can continue to be used safely for decades to come. This should be done with as little impact as possible on the availability of the bridge and user satisfaction. That is why a testing ground has been set up.

The trial will begin with measurements of the movement of the bascule bridges with the aim of better predicting malfunctions. The testing ground will provide knowledge that will help to prevent malfunctions and emergencies on other bridges. This will ultimately improve maintenance and reduce costs.
