A new school, a new study programme, a new class, and for some students, even a whole new country. The first 100 days at HZ are exciting, challenging, but also fun! You'll dive into your program, get to know your classmates better, and make your student room a new home. Student Aneta shares her experience during her first 100 days at HZ.
Aneta moved from Slovakia to the Netherlands to study Tourism Management at HZ. A big step, but from the moment she arrived in Zeeland, she felt welcome. Her fellow students and lecturers are friendly and helpful. "That's so important," she says. "Especially for me as an international student." Together with her fellow students from her study programme or from the housing campus in Oost-Souburg, Aneta explores Zeeland, visiting the beach in Vlissingen or the historic center of Middelburg.
Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it.
In her native Slovakia, Aneta would never have been able to pursue a study programme like Tourism Management at HZ. She particularly enjoys the practical aspect of the study programme. "You don't just learn from books," says Aneta. "Together with your fellow students, you work on real-life projects, group assignments, and gain practical experience." Studying far from home teaches you a lot about yourself. Aneta can do much more on her own than she ever imagined, even though it's sometimes difficult. "I'm proud of myself."
Aneta understands that the first few months in a new country and a new study programme can be quite challenging. "Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it," she says. In her experience, fellow students and lecturers are happy to help. There are also plenty of opportunities at HZ to meet new people. Try exercising at the HZ Vitality Center, lend a hand in the HZ Garden, or sign up for an HZ Community activity. By getting to know students from different programs and backgrounds, you'll quickly feel at home in Zeeland and at HZ.
