Daniils is currently studying Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) at HZ University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. With a passion for programming and all things related to computers, he chose HZ because of its practical, hands-on approach and welcoming international environment.
Why did you choose to study Information and Communication Technology at HZ?
I chose for this study programme because I'm very interested in programming and everything about computers. When I read about the course, I immediately liked it. In the first year, you’re already making games, which is really fun and impactful. HZ was also the first university that replied to me, and my parents saw the course overview and said: "Wow, this is amazing."
Which specialization within ICT are you following?
I am following the Software Developer program because I love developing software. I want to see outcomes, something graphical, because I’m a somewhat artistic person. For example, I want to design apps, implement the designs, and solve software-related problems.
How do you experience studying as an international student at HZ?
It’s really cool and very open. Everyone is approachable, and no one rejects your questions. If I ask something in English, I always get a reply because everyone here speaks English.
What do you think of the teachers at HZ?
The teachers are very open and helpful. Some of them are even available almost 24/7, which is surprising. They’re really good and very experienced.
How is the teaching style at HZ different from your home country?
The courses here are more practical rather than academic. In my home country, the focus is more on academic learning, but at HZ, the teachers have real-world work experience. They share problems they’ve encountered in the field, which we might also face, and that helps prepare me to become a skilled professional in programming.
