Rawfaeh from Pakistan chose Civil Engineering because of the mix of human development and technical education. He describes his growth over the past years from high school graduate to an engineering professional. He's now graduated!

Why did you choose to study Civil Engineering?

Since childhood, I’ve always been interested in human development. Civil engineering combines that with technical education, and I love how it impacts both people and infrastructure. That was my main motivation to study this field.

How was your student life at HZ?

The last four years have been amazing in terms of personal growth. One of my highlights was my exchange program in Istanbul. I spent two weeks on the road and then six months in an international environment with students from all over the world. If it weren’t for HZ, I probably wouldn’t have had the opportunity to travel like that. It was exciting and fun, but also challenging academically—a lot of learning and self-discovery.

How would you describe Civil Engineering at HZ in one word?

Variety. We work on both research and practical design projects. My personal favourite was the renovation of the station bridge in Middelburg. The municipality wanted student creativity in the project, which made it a great experience.

How do you feel you have developed during your time at HZ?

I came here as a high school graduate, and I’m walking out as a professional!
