As of 1 August 2026, Walter Roovers will take up the position of Director of the Energy Campus programme within HZ. On that date, he will step down as Domain Director of Technology, Water & Environment.

Energy as a strategic priority

In his new role, Walter Roovers will focus on further strengthening HZ’s position as a knowledge institute for research and education in the field of energy, one of HZ’s key profiling themes. The energy transition presents significant challenges, including grid congestion and developments such as offshore wind, green hydrogen and, not least, nuclear energy. As Director, Walter will coordinate internal developments, further strengthen relationships with stakeholders and the professional field, and establish strong links with the ‘Zeeland 2050’ movement.

Positive energy

Walter reflects on both the past and the future: “I have greatly enjoyed working at Technology, Water & Environment. Since joining in 2022, I have experienced the positive and innovative spirit within this cluster. The technical domain has faced and continues to face significant challenges. I have had the privilege of working with colleagues who are deeply committed to HZ, to technical education, to our students and to the future of the region. It suits me to take on a new challenge from time to time. I am pleased to have been given this opportunity within the energy theme, particularly in light of the societal responsibility involved.”
