The court has today handed down its ruling in the case brought by the Zeeland School Transport Foundation (SSZ) against the State regarding the planned train trial in Zeeland. The judge has ruled that the trial may go ahead in 2029.

Concerns about accessibility

Educational institutions in Zeeland, including HZ University of Applied Sciences, are working together through the foundation. HZ joined the case due to concerns about the accessibility of the university’s campuses in Vlissingen and Middelburg. Attention has been drawn to the consequences for students and staff who rely on the train connection between Goes and Vlissingen on a daily basis.

Committed to finding the best alternatives

Joeri Versluis, Director of Business Operations, was involved in the preparations for the court case. “Together with the educational institutions in Zeeland, we did everything we could to prevent this trial. Colleagues and students, among others, contributed their ideas and shared their experiences and concerns with us,” he explains. “Alongside the legal aspects of the case, we focused specifically on the human side and the impact on people. Unfortunately, this did not lead to a different outcome.”

HZ remains committed to finding the best solutions. Joeri: “Although the ruling is disappointing, we will continue to work with the other parties to find the best transport alternatives. We want to establish clear agreements for the duration of the trial period. Our goal remains to minimise the impact on students and employees.
