People from a variety of backgrounds and with different personal stories study and work at HZ. Events happening close to home or further afield can cause concern or unease within the HZ community.

With respect

As the Executive Board, we wish to emphasise the importance of an international community in which everyone feels welcome and valued. Precisely when events in our country or around the world can stir up emotions, it is important that we look out for one another, listen to one another and treat one another with respect. Even when we have different perspectives and experiences.

Peace flag at HZ locations

This week, Hendrik-Jan van Arenthals and Richard Liefting, chair and member of the Executive Board, symbolically raised the peace flag. This flag is an international symbol of peace, solidarity and non-violence.

“With this gesture, we are drawing attention to peace, respect and caring for one another,” they explain. “We would like to emphasise that every student and staff member is welcome at HZ. Together, we create a personal and caring university of applied sciences where everyone feels at home. Look out for one another.”

The flag is flying at the campuses in Vlissingen and Middelburg.
