Will you be coming to the HZ Discovery Café in Vlissingen on Tuesday 17 November? This time, the focus is on one of the province’s greatest icons: the Zeeland Bridge.

Professor Vana Tsimopoulou, researchers Sondos Saad and Albert Repko from the Asset Management research group, and Steven Mookhoek from the Province of Zeeland will explain how they assess the condition of the five-kilometre-long bridge.

What happens when a 60-year-old bridge has to carry tomorrow’s traffic? The Zeeland Bridge is a crucial lifeline for Zeeland. In the Zeeland Bridge Monitoring Field Lab, the Province of Zeeland, HZ, TU Delft, Witteveen+Bos and World Class Maintenance carried out a health check on the bridge. To do this, they used sensors that monitored the bridge day and night.

In this edition of the HZ Discovery Café, HZ researchers Sondos Saad and Albert Repko, together with project leader Steven Mookhoek from the provincial government, will take you behind the scenes of this project.

Interactive session with discussion points

What does this mean for mobility in our region? How do improvements to our roads and bridges affect the way we live, work and travel? And how does this research tie in with the long-term vision for Zeeland’s development? Put your own views to the test in an interactive session with discussion points, led by Associate Professor of Asset Management Vana Tsimopoulou.

The HZ Discovery Café opens its doors at 3.30 pm on Tuesday 17 November. The researchers will begin their presentations at 4.00 pm. Afterwards, there will be plenty of time for questions, and you’ll have the chance to catch up with one another over some light refreshments.

A cosy, informal atmosphere

We organise the HZ Discovery Café three or four times per academic year. During the event, HZ researchers talk about their work in a cosy, informal atmosphere and share their insights on current events.

Admission is free. Will you be joining us? Register for the HZ Discovery Café: https://edu.nl/mhvyr.
