He worked at KEMA and Philips Semiconductors in the fields of control engineering, hydrogen technology, solar energy and power semiconductors. In 2001 he joined HAN University of Applied Sciences as a senior researcher in energy management and fuel-cell propulsion systems and as manager of the master’s programme in Control Systems Engineering.
He then worked as a senior asset data analyst at the network operator Alliander, focusing on ageing models for high-voltage assets and on hydrogen as an energy carrier. In 2018 he co-founded HyMatters BV, a company committed to achieving a 100% sustainable energy system by exploring the full potential of hydrogen as a sustainable energy carrier.
Since July 2025 he has been a professor of applied sciences with the Delta Power research group at HZ University of Applied Sciences.
Edwin grew up in Middelburg. After finishing secondary school, he moved to Eindhoven to study. He found his first job in Arnhem, where he met his wife, Anita. Since then, they have lived there together with their two children. They are now hoping to move back to Middelburg.
