Something is brewing in Vlissingen. A giant egg has appeared in the middle of a neighbourhood.
EGG is an immersive art installation by Studio Puck van Dijk. The Art | Culture | Transition research group is investigating the impact of EGG’s presence on the daily lives of Vlissingen’s residents. What happens when such a strange, lifelike-looking object suddenly becomes part of your neighbourhood? Who stops to look, who strikes up a conversation with whom, and what questions about climate, quality of life and community life arise?
Through observations, interviews and narrative research methods, we are tracking how the experience plays out. We are collecting the stories that emerge around EGG and examining what they reveal about values, relationships and ideas about the future. In this way, we are not only investigating what people think of EGG, but above all what EGG sets in motion: in how people look at things, assign meaning, meet one another and imagine a different future.
The research is being carried out by Jackie Ashkin from the art | culture | transition research group at HZ University of Applied Sciences, in collaboration with Studio Puck van Dijk, Cultuurkwadraat, Buurtteams Vlissingen, the Municipality of Vlissingen and Tellart. The research project is made possible in part by funding from NGF-CIIIC Start.
