On Tuesday, Data Science professor Mischa Beckers, together with Rutger van der Male from Impuls Zeeland, presented the findings of a study into the potential for an AI hub in Zeeland. They handed over the final report to Provincial Executive Member Johan Aalberts.
The presentation took place during the ‘AI in Zeeland’ event at the Stadsschouwburg in Middelburg. 280 people attended the gathering, during which keynote speaker Jan Scheele outlined the latest developments and a panel including Beckers and Scheele discussed their experiences with AI. Beckers and Van der Male’s research states, among other things, that AI is becoming increasingly important for organisations, but that knowledge and application are still fragmented; many organisations need practical help, and collaboration and knowledge-sharing are urgently required. An AI hub could help to accelerate this. "An AI Hub brings together businesses, public authorities and research institutions with the aim of raising the level of knowledge, exchanging experiences and actually putting AI into practice. We’re already doing a lot with AI in Zeeland, but under the umbrella of the AI Hub, you can decide more efficiently whether it’s right for you, who you can work with, how to go about it and what the benefits are", says Beckers.
The final report on the possible establishment of an AI hub can be read here (Dutch).
Video series on AI
Commissioned by the Province of Zeeland’s Digital Agenda project, a six-part video series has also been produced on the opportunities AI offers for education, public authorities and businesses in Zeeland. The first episode was released on Wednesday 25 March on the province’s YouTube channel.
