HZ Center for Community Research Zeeland (HZ KCZS), in collaboration with consultancy firm Lysias, is investigating what the construction of two nuclear power plants means for Zeeland. The province and the municipality of Borsele have commissioned this research.
HZ KCZS and Lysias are tasked with making 'a realistic assessment' of the impact the construction of the power plants will have. The study also aims to outline which measures can prevent or mitigate the negative effects, as well as identify the opportunities the two new nuclear power plants might offer.
The researchers will interview specialists, study documents, use existing data, and examine the effects of nuclear power plant construction in other countries. Furthermore, discussions will take place with organizations and stakeholders involved in the Zeeland and Borsele conditions. These conditions have been established over the past few years and form a list of requirements the government must meet if two new nuclear power plants are built in Zeeland.
Refining
The province and municipality intend to use the report from HZ KCZS and Lysias to refine or adjust the conditions. The so-called Local Impact Report is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
