The research project of the Biobased Construction research group at HZ University of Applied Sciences has been nominated for the RAAK Award. It is one of six projects nominated for the prestigious prize from the National Taskforce for Practice-Based Research SIA, the organization that promotes applied research in the Netherlands.
Researchers such as Frank Huijben (lector of Biobased Construction), Marijn Heeren, and Svebor Heruc have collaborated with the field to develop a test setup in which they can examine biobased façade materials. This installation consists of two containers that simulate indoor and outdoor climates.
Measurements show that biobased insulation materials are valuable, partly because they can absorb and release heat and moisture. However, there is hardly any validated knowledge available on these types of sustainable materials in the Dutch construction sector. The developed setup aims to change that.
