The hydrogen laboratory at HZ University of Applied Sciences and Scalda is in frequent use. Groups of students from HZ and Scalda regularly receive practical training there.

In October, for example, seventeen fourth-year Process Engineering students from Scalda in Terneuzen and four HZ students from the Minor Offshore Renewable Energy programme were working in the lab.

They were supervised by lecturers Wim Steijns (Scalda), Roel Tolle and Collin Bohncke (both HZ). During the practical lessons, the students wear antistatic lab coats lined with copper wire to dissipate any electrical charge that may come from synthetic clothing. Safety is a very important issue in the lab.
