On Wednesday afternoon, 18 November, the HZ Ethics Committee is organising a mini-symposium on ethically sound research.
The venue is the HZ in Middelburg. All researchers and staff are welcome to attend.
Research that is methodologically sound and ethically responsible? That is what this symposium is all about. What dilemmas do you encounter? And how do you make ethical awareness a natural part of your research and professional development?
Applicable to any research
During the mini-symposium, there will be workshops applicable to any research. One will examine the research cycle from the perspective of open science and research data management. Using a practical case study – from initial idea to publication – you will discover how to recognise ethical considerations and conduct responsible research, in line with the new Dutch Code of Conduct for Scientific Integrity. You will be introduced to guidelines, practical tools and support available within HZ.
Mini-lecture and workshops
The symposium begins at 12.00 with lunch and poster sessions. At 13.00, Marco van Leeuwen (Breda University of Applied Sciences) will give a mini-lecture on the value and necessity of research ethics. This will be followed by two of the three workshops, held in two sessions (at 1.30 pm and 2.30 pm): AI and research ethics (Marco van Leeuwen, in English), Critical Friend: from form to meaningful conversation (Vincent de Rooij) and Ethically sound research at HZ, based on open science and data management (Kees Bal and Ingrid Snijders). Finally, after the break, there will be a panel discussion from 3.45 pm to 4.30 pm.
