Studying at HZ

Studying at HZ means living in one of the most beautiful regions of the Netherlands, a place where you make friends for life and where your future plans come to fruition. Will you choose HZ? We have listed what studying at HZ means for you.

Personal

Classes are small, which allows us to offer you personalised education. Teachers know you by name and you are assigned a Study Coach at the beginning of your first year. He or she will support you in mapping out your study career and will be there for you when you encounter challenges.

Ready for your future

You learn not only in the classroom, but also in practice. During your studies, for instance, you will often work for and with clients on real assignments and you will have regular internships. The HZ does a lot of practice-oriented research. This means that we do a lot of research based on questions from practice. Together with companies and organisations, we ensure that your study always fits in well with your future job or further study. And that the material offered to you during your studies is always up-to-date.

International

HZ has some 4,800 students from all over the world. During your studies, too, you will have every opportunity to gain experience abroad, through your internship or minor, for example.

Modern facilities

Learning for exams, doing assignments, writing reports, meeting deadlines and attending lectures: student life can sometimes be quite busy. That is why the HZ offers all kinds of facilities that make your life just a little bit easier. Then you can focus on your studies and we will take care of the rest.

Study carefree

It is important that you can study as carefree as possible. That is why there are several options in terms of help and guidance. Would you like to combine your passion for top-level sport with studying? There are options for that too. Perhaps you have a different support need? At HZ, we are ready to help you.

Contribute to a better world

Develop your talents to the full by joining the HZ Honours Programme. Are you socially involved, creative, enterprising and up for a challenge? This special programme alongside your studies gives you the opportunity to develop yourself and your talents to the full, broaden your knowledge and contribute to a better world. Will you make a difference?

The campus

If you study at HZ, you will study in Vlissingen or Middelburg.

Vlissingen

At HZ on Edisonweg in Vlissingen, you will find studies in International Business, Logistics Engineering and Tourism Management, among others.

Strolling through the city, before you know it you are standing with your feet in the sand: the beach is always close by. Vlissingen has traditionally been a port city and this is clearly reflected in the old factories and ships. But apart from that, Vlissingen is also a student city! The city centre is compact and the HZ is always nearby. So you easily meet other students and get to know each other quickly. You don't have to get bored in Vlissingen. There is plenty to do when you are not studying.

Middelburg

In the heart of Middelburg, you will find many of HZ's technical study programmes, including Civil Engineering, Global Project and Change Management, Water Management and the master's programme River Delta Development. The new Joint Research Centre Zeeland is also being built at this location.

In Middelburg, everything is within walking distance from the school on the Groene Woud. You can get to the supermarket, the city and places of entertainment in no time. The railway station is a 10-minute walk from the school. On summer days you can be on the beach in 20 minutes by bike, for example at the boulevard in Vlissingen or in one of the tourist villages such as Dishoek, Zoutelande, Westkapelle or Domburg. By car, you can be in Rotterdam, Breda or Antwerp within an hour.

At the top

Every year the ‘Keuzegids Hoger Onderwijs’ (Guide to Higher Education) holds a survey of higher education in the Netherlands. For ten years in a row, the guide has ranked HZ in the top 3 of multidisciplinary Dutch universities of applied sciences. The small student groups, practical approach and international orientation are among HZ’s assets. But also the classrooms, workspaces and computer facilities were rated as excellent.
