Admission requirements

To be accepted as a student there are certain university admission requirements you have to meet. These are dependent on your chosen field of study and your level of English. Information given below explains our general, additional and language requirements.

General requirements

To qualify for general university admission, you are required to have a diploma equivalent to the Dutch Secondary Education Diploma (HAVO/VWO). To see if your diploma qualifies, check our list of foreign acceptable diplomas.

Additional requirements

Depending on your chosen Bachelor programme, there may be additional entry requirements you have to meet. These additional requirements can be found in the description of each specific course or study on our website.

Language Requirements

All courses and examinations will be in English, so you need a good command of spoken and written English. The level required for admission should be an equivalent of the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 6.0. For the scores of other accepted language tests than IELTS, the table below applies.

* TOEFL applicants need to request an additional score report through the TOEFL – ETS organization (HZ UAS code number 6722). ETS will send an official score report to HZ UAS directly.

Language exemptions

Candidates with an International Baccalaureate and/or from International Schools do not have to take the mandatory English test. 

European Baccalaureat students with English as a first foreign language as well as students with a French Baccalauréat diploma including the ‘Section/Option Internationale’ are also exempt from the English language requirement

If you graduated in The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Ireland, United States, Canada (except Quebec), Malta,  Australia or New-Zealand or if you are holding a diploma (including English as an exam subject) listed on the diploma list, drawn up on behalf of the associations of institutions of higher education, you do not need to take a mandatory English test. Provided that your final grade for English language on you diploma is sufficient.

Alternative entrance

If you do not meet the above education requirements and if you are at least 21 years old you may be exempted from the general admission requirement. HZ provides the possibility of taking an alternative entranceexam.
