Whether it’s healthcare, education, technology, or the creative industry, developments in AI are moving at lightning speed and affecting every sector. This brings opportunities, but also ethical challenges. The Vereniging Hogescholen (VH) is inviting students to depict how AI will influence their future profession through an image, video, or text.
The best entry will win 2,601 euro, an amount equal to one year of tuition fees. “The labor market is in urgent need of practically trained university of applied sciences graduates who are not only capable of developing innovative solutions but also critical of the impact of developments around AI,” says Maurice Limmen, chair of the VH.
The competition is open to all students enrolled at HZ during the 2024–2025 academic year. Entries can be submitted until Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
A jury will select the ten best entries based on the following criteria:
-
Does the entry reflect a clear vision?
-
Is the message clear?
-
Is it a well-thought-out idea?
-
And is the entry original?
The winner will be announced this fall.
Opportunities and Risks
The jury chair is Angelien Sanderman from Leiden University of Applied Sciences. “AI is a disruptive technology that is rapidly changing the world, offering many opportunities, but also bringing risks,” she says. “That’s why this competition is so relevant. What does AI mean for our students who are about to enter the workforce? What opportunities do they see? How can AI be helpful? What boundaries should we set? I’m curious to see the creative and critical ways students visualize their future profession, because together we determine how we shape and make use of this new technology.”
