'Knowledge and skills are an essential driving force behind progress in the world. A lack of imagination is a brake'. With this motto in mind, more than 200 visitors explored the future of the Zeeland delta on Tuesday, April 8, during the annual event of the Delta Climate Center.
During the reception, visitors were asked to answer a number of questions on the themes of water, food, and circularity. Based on these responses, Scalda students Basher and Mika, along with practor Jeroen van de Merwe, created several paintings of Zeeland in 2050 using AI. Some of the results can be seen here.
Experts Take the Stage
Following this, several experts spoke in the Lasloods, both from the DCC itself and beyond. Mischa Beckers (HZ), Radboud van der Linden (Province of Zeeland), and Peter Sloot (University of Amsterdam) discussed technologies such as AI, digital twins, and storytelling, as well as regional transitions.
DCC Flagship Projects
Researchers Bianca de Vlieger (WUR), Abe Hendriks (Utrecht University), artist Dani Ploeger, and Jan Arends from Ghent University shared their visions during the segment on the future of Zeeland and engaged in conversation with researchers from the three DCC flagship projects: Hans Cappon, Saskia Nijhof, and Jim van Belzen.
Young DCC
The final word went to Young DCC. A number of young researchers and students showcased the projects they are currently working on and how these align with the objectives of the DCC.
