Students from HZ University of Applied Sciences and University College Roosevelt will have to get to work again on Monday, May 26, during Datafest 2025: Data for Freedom.
The students will explore innovative solutions related to the cultural heritage of Zeeland. “Freedom is not something to be taken for granted.” That is the message from the 80 Years of Freedom Zeeland Foundation. “In 1945 we regained our freedom. But in other countries, war is still being waged to this day. We, the 80 Years of Freedom Zeeland Foundation, want to build a future together in which 80 years of freedom is not just a memory, but is firmly anchored for the future.”
Cultural heritage
The preservation of peace and freedom is this year’s theme of Datafest. During Data for Freedom, students will work with various data sources related to Zeeland’s cultural heritage. The focus is on storytelling using these data sources. The students will process their findings into interactive visualizations. This can only be successful if the relationships between objects in (different) collections are properly mapped. To achieve this, students must come up with creative solutions, both for data preparation and for clustering and classification models. Specific assignments are available for this purpose.
