Step 3. Selection, allocation of place and nomination
In the 1st round chances are equal for everybody who registers within this period. So it doesn't matter if you register 10 November or 30 November 2025 at 23.59 hrs.
The selection is based on study results of the Propedeuse (first year): the number of confirmed credits (max 60 EC, on 1 December) and their average grade. This selection method also applies also if there are more applications than available places at a partner institution. In the 2nd round selection is on a first come, first served basis.
Allocation of place at partner institute
After the selection is complete, the HZ International Office will assign you a place. You will receive an email via Osiris containing the name of the partner institution for which you have been selected. That is always 1 partner institution. If you have registered in the first round, you will receive this e-mail before the Christmas break. If you have registered in the second round, you will receive the e-mail within a few days after you've registered.
Accept or reject the offer
You have to accept or reject the place for which you have been selected within the time that is set for that. When that is, is mentioned in the e-mail. If you don't accept or reject the offer, it will automatically be cancelled. We then assume that you withdraw from the Study Abroad minor.
Accepting
If you accept the place, also read the rest of the information on this page and also check Step 4.
Rejecting
If you reject the place but would like to discuss other options, come to the International Office (L1.07). In a personal meeting we will discuss the available options with you, after which you will be offered another place.
Nomination at partner institution
After you have accepted your place at the partner institution, the HZ International Office will officially nominate you there. When exactly this will be, depends on the deadline for application at that partner institution. Without this official nomination the partner institute will not process your application.
Jurgen van Fraeijenhove, an ICT student, about his experience in Madrid, Spain:
'I wanted to study abroad because it is a fantastic experience to go to a completely different place for a few months and learn about the culture and to explore the world. Also, making international friends is a lot of fun and meeting new people in general. It is truly a once in a lifetime experience that I was excited to take on.
I am following a number of different courses from which some are related to my home study of ICT. I also follow a Spanish language course. It is fun to see your knowledge grow and to start understanding a new language.
We visited the beautiful city of Granada and we are also planning on going to Valencia and Barcelona sometime. My parents came to visit one weekend and it was very fun to show them around the province. Also going out with new people and exploring the big city together is very nice.'
