Student psychologist

Do you have mental health issues that are affecting your academic progress? If so, you can request an appointment with one of HZ's student psychologists: Marcia Nieuwets and Petra de Bil. You can make an appointment yourself by sending an email to studentenpsychologen@hz.nl. Even if you have been referred by the SLC or your dean, you should still send an email yourself.

Visits to the student psychologists are free of charge. Everything you discuss is completely confidential and will not be shared with third parties unless you give your explicit consent.

The appointments take place in room A0.40 at the Edisonweg location in Vlissingen. Online appointments are also possible, or appointments at the Het Groene Woud location in Middelburg can be arranged in consultation.

Emergencies

Student psychologists are only available during school hours. Is your problem very urgent? In that case, contact your general practitioner immediately. Outside office hours, call the emergency GP service, for Vlissingen and Middelburg at 088-0228135.

Are you considering suicide? Call 113 free of charge and anonymously 24/7 or chat at 113.nl. Please also contact them if you are seriously concerned about someone else.

When can you see the student psychologist?

For personal problems that interfere with your studies, such as depression, anxiety (including fear of failure), worrying, insecurity, negative self-image or an unhealthy amount of stress. Students with ASD/ADHD, grief and loss issues, (sexual) identity issues or family problems can also register.

Referral

Help from the student psychologist falls under basic mental health care (GGZ). Complex problems, such as personality disorders, eating disorders, serious addiction or PTSD, are not covered by basic mental health care. If you have such complaints, it is best to ask your general practitioner for a referral to specialist mental health care. We can also help you with this.

Study-related problems

Are you struggling to stay motivated in your studies, do you suffer from procrastination, have difficulty planning, or are you encountering problems during your graduation phase? If you are experiencing these problems, it is best to contact your study career coach or dean. They are also there to help you, so feel free to contact them if you are struggling with something.

Waiting period

Due to temporary staff shortages within our team of student psychologists, there is currently a waiting period of 4 to 6 weeks before an intake interview can take place. We understand that this can be frustrating. If you need support sooner, we recommend contacting your general practitioner. They can help you determine appropriate next steps or, if necessary, refer you to other mental health professionals. In addition, there are various online therapy providers where you may be able to receive support or counseling sooner.

For international student we recommend Inscape Health if you are interested in online support.
