Tuition fees

There are three options for paying your tuition fees:

  • Direct debit payment in 1 instalment
  • Direct debit payment in 10 instalments
  • Payment by a company via an invoice

Payment in 1 instalment
When paying in 1 instalment, the tuition fees are debited all in once from the specified bank account. The debit entry will take place on or around 25 September.

Payment in 10 instalments

When paying in 10 instalments, 1/10th of the tuition fees are debited each month from September to June. This is always done around the 25th of the month. In September, the amount is increased by € 24 for administration costs. If you registered after 20 September, the first instalment will be collected together with the second instalment in October.

Payment by a company
If a company pays your tuition fees, the company must complete a declaration. This declaration can be requested from the Finance departement at debiteuren@hz.nl. The declaration must also be submitted to debiteuren@hz.nl.

Non-payment of tuition fees

If tuition fees cannot be debited in a month, you will receive a reminder and a request to pay within seven days. If you do not pay, you will then receive a payment demand.

Debt collection agency
If you do not pay the payment demand within fourteen days, the HZ will outsource the claim to a debt collection agency. You will then have to pay the costs of the debt collection agency in addition to the tuition fees owed. Your account at HZ will be blocked until you have paid.

Termination of enrolment
If you still fail to pay your tuition fees, the HZ Executive Board may terminate your enrolment. The rules are set out in article 37.4 of the Regulations Student Registration HZ.

Students who still have a (tuition fee) debt from a previous school year and have not made an arrangement for this with the debt collection agency will not be able to re-register at HZ until this debt has been paid.

Other consequences

If you have received two payment demands, the option to pay in instalments may be withdrawn for the next school year. You will then have to pay the tuition fees all in once at the start of the school year.

If tuition fees could not be collected twice or more, but are still paid at a later stage, the option to pay in instalments may be withdrawn. You must then pay the tuition fees for that school year all in once.
