SDG Events

To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we need to be able to count on each other. From businesses, consumers, schools, students, to governments and residents. Everyone has a link to make the world more sustainable and fair by 2030. The aim of the SDG Events is to be the connecting place in the region where practice, education and government come together for inspiration and awareness.

Young people are at the frontline. Whether it is about climate change, human rights or social justice. As a young person, do you also want your voice to be heard? Come to an SDG Event or become an SDG Student Ambassador!

Help organise SDG Events

Do you enjoy creating awareness in a creative and playful way? Would you like to stand up for a cause you feel personally involved with? Do so by joining the working group linked to one of the 17 causes. Join us in action. Your task: devising, organising and executing an awareness event, together with a working group.

Sign up
Sign up to organise an Awareness event can be done up to 6 weeks prior to the event, by emailing sdgevents@hz.nl. You can use the projects for HZ Personality.

Working groups
A total of 17 Awareness events are planned during the school year , all linked to the sustainability goals. Which goal do you want to get involved in? Register per Awareness Event and organise the event! You determine, together with your working group how you will create awareness on this goal linked to the (inter)national day.

Action reindeer (SDG 1: No poverty)

One in ten children in the Netherlands grows up in poverty. That is over 300,000 children up to 21 years of age who have anything but a carefree childhood. These children grow up in a family with an income below the 'not-much-but-sufficient' criterion of the Social and Cultural Planning Office. As a result, there is not always enough money at home for basic needs such as new clothes after a growth spurt, or a day out for relaxation.

Assignment

Between 14 November and 16 December, we are collecting presents for families on Walcheren with children between 0 and 18 years old. Will you help organise and implement this project? Sign up! After last year's great success, we want to roll out the campaign again this year. With the aim of raising awareness on the subject of poverty in our country.

The idea arose from the HZ to use the Action Reindeer to help families living in poverty. For them, this December month is often especially fraught.

International Day Against Racism and Discrimination (SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth)

On 21 March, the world reflects on the fight against racism and discrimination on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The day was created by the United Nations (UN) in 1966 to commemorate the tragedy that occurred on 21 March 1960 in Sharpeville, South Africa. Police officers then opened fire on protesters who disagreed with the country's new apartheid legislation. The Sharpeville Massacre killed 69 people, including 10 children.

This year, the UN places particular emphasis on:

  • the importance of meaningful and safe public participation and representation in all areas of decision-making to prevent and combat racial discrimination;
  • the importance of respecting freedom of expression, the right to peaceful protest and the importance of protecting space for civil society;
  • that the contributions and challenges of individuals and organisations taking action against racial discrimination be recognised. Industry, innovation and infrastructure.
