Many things converge in delta regions. As a transition zone between land and sea, they hold great ecological and economic value.

They are home to a wide diversity of plant and animal species, important shipping routes, and the most fertile areas for agriculture. But how do we ensure that naturalness and human use remain in balance, now and in the future? And how can we design and manage delta landscapes so that they are climate-resilient for both people and animals?

Building with Nature researches this Coast of the Future and how Nature-based Solutions can contribute to it.

Wietse van de Lageweg is lector Building with Nature. He delivered his inaugural address on Nov. 3, 2022: 'Future Shores'.
