Step 2. Action!
So you're sure! You want to do your internship outside the Netherlands. Then it's time for action!
1. Check the job board on OnStage
in OnStage you will find various internships abroad: Job vacancies
Select ‘Vacancy database’, ‘Region’, ‘Abroad’, ‘Course’ and fill in the other relevant criteria.
2. Contact lecturers and the internship coordinator for your programme
• Ask the lecturers on your programme and your internship coordinator if they have contacts at companies or organisations where HZ students regularly undertake internships.
• How do you apply?
- Contact a company yourself.
- Apply via LinkedIn if possible.
- Find an internship through an internship agency (note the agency fees)
3. See where HZ students have previously done internships!
On this Learn page, you can read stories from HZ students who have completed or are currently undertaking internships abroad. It’s also a great way to discover where you might be able to do an internship.
4. If you can’t find an internship, The Work Zone is happy to help.
Pop into The Work Zone (L062) or email stage@hz.nl. They’ll be happy to assist you in finding a suitable internship.
Good to know:
Internship agencies: you usually have to pay a fee to an internship agency. Pay close attention to the amount of the placement fees.

Mikayla about her internship at the Australian Institute of Marine Science:
"An internship abroad is, in my opinion, the best thing you can do for yourself. You broaden your social network by meeting so many different people. Moreover, you're challenged to live and work in an unfamiliar environment. You'll find that in different countries and cultures, the way of thinking can be different from what you're used to. This expands your knowledge. In your free time, you travel to places you would never otherwise visit or never planned to go. And then the most important thing: it expands your understanding of the world we live in!"
