Engineering lecturer

Size: 0.8 fte-1.0 fte (32-40 hours)
Location: Middelburg

Specialisation: Industrial Engineering and Management

A keen interest in people, technology and commitment to students is what makes your job worthwhile. This vacancy is a perfect fit for you if you are an experienced teacher. You have no teaching experience, because you have been working in the corporate world for example, but are you actually interested in becoming a teacher? Then you are also welcome to apply. Our Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) programme is compact, yet international. We work closely together in a cluster with the Engineering and Logistics Engineering programmes.

Our students already work in the business community from the start of their studies and thus with real-life case studies. Can you imagine yourself not only as a teacher, but also as a collaborative partner with the business world? Will you help us grow? Then apply for the vacancy of Engineering lecturer at HZ University of Applied Sciences in Middelburg.

Your work as a lecturer
By teaching classes such as applied mathematics, applied physics and mechanics of materials, you will give students that solid foundation in engineering we feel is necessary for a good industrial engineering student. In addition, students are also guided during their studies and in this you play a role as a study career coach, or you participate in an educational programme that we carry out for an international university. As we also teach our programme part-time, sometimes we work in the full time and sometimes in the part-time programme. Should you have expertise in electrical engineering, you will be hired by the Maritime Officer and Engineering programmes, which are run by our colleagues.

And to ensure that education remains connected to contemporary practice, you are constantly engaged in social trends, and new developments. For example, you will then supervise trainees, participate in a professional field committee or work in a project.

Our personal and practice-based education is characterised by learning from and doing applied research. Together with other courses and research groups, we work on themes in asset management, supply chain innovation and sustainability. Here, good research skills come in handy. This cooperation is done in the Joint Research Centre Zeeland, among other places. This unique laboratory is equipped with the latest equipment and is an inspiring place where researchers, students and companies work together on projects. Usually at regional and sometimes at an (inter)national level.

You use your knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to train students to become enterprising, innovative and values-driven professionals. You do this by:

  • Teaching
  • Supervising and coaching students
  • Connecting with the business field.

The team
Our team consists of about 8 colleagues, all professionals from the business world. Given the size of our programme, the focus is on working well together and being able to switch quickly. We want to be able to replace each other if the situation demands it. In practice, we therefore work at the Vlissingen and Middelburg locations, and because of our international students, we are bilingual.

Are you the right fit?
You do not treat students as numbers, but as individuals. With your hands-on experience, you can teach students, motivate and inspire them. You focus on the students' learning process. Internationalisation plays an increasingly important role within the study programme. With your communication skills and sense of responsibility, you know better than anyone how to contribute to training our students to become good international professionals. Are you keen on becoming a lecturer and are you the team player who wants to build with us towards becoming the best IEM programme in the Netherlands? Then apply for the vacancy and become that top education together with us and the students alike!

In addition, you have:

  • A completed relevant master's degree.
  • some work experience as a teacher or the willingness to learn how to become a teacher.
  • good coaching skills.
  • international work experience.
  • Dutch and English at C2 level.

Grow with us
We believe that future-proof education starts with our employees. Therefore, in addition to a vibrant working environment, we offer you:

  • A temporary appointment for one year in the position of Lecturer. Renewal of this appointment is subject to personal performance and formative space;
  • A gross monthly salary in scale 11 between €3881.09 and €5332.48 in accordance with CAO HBO for full-time employment;
