My study at HZ helped completing my Master Programme
“After moving to the Netherlands in 2007, I began to think about a new and interesting study direction to begin. After screening several universities, I decided to enroll within the International Business & Management Studies Bachelor degree course at the HZ university of Applied Sciences. There were multiple factors that attracted me to HZ’s program. Firstly, the Zeeuwse coast was a big draw (student summer beach parties); second, the IBMS curriculum was focused on the practical application of business theory (opportunities to start student business projects) ; and finally the prospect of going on Erasmus European Study exchanges , as well as international work placements was very exciting!
And? Did HZ Deliver the goods? They sure did! For example, during my third study year via the advice and counseling of the international office I was able to find an Erasmus Exchange placement in Trollhattan Sweden at Hogskolan Vast for 6 months. Following which, I was also able to go on a six month placement at the Philips Global Business Unit for LED lamps and systems in Shanghai China. Last but not least, during the final year of my studies, with the support of the international office, I received the opportunity for an internship at the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris France.
Each of these individual experiences were deeply fulfilling, I learned a whole lot during each of them from a cultural, professional and of course social dimension having gained valuable friendships along the way. Going through all these stages in my development, encouraged me to eventually follow up on my bachelor studies at HZ with a Master of Science at Tilburg University. I can honestly say, that the structure and depth of what I learned at HZ helped me to successfully complete the Master Programme.
Since graduating at Tilburg, I established a career within the ICT business consulting industry. My first professional experience was within the Young Graduate program at IBM. I was hired within the Enterprise Application business Unit of IBM Benelux. This department focuses on the implementation and maintenance of business applications which companies (large and medium), use to run their end to end business process. I was trained up as a functional business consultant within the SAP logistics framework. My time at IBM was very dynamic, I worked on several projects both internationally and locally focused. Furthermore, I also took the opportunity to further expand my professional network and consulting skillsets.
Of late, I have recently begun a new adventure at a locally focused ICT business Consulting Firm Ordina BV , my role is still focused within the realm of SAP functional consulting however I am currently building my knowledge and experience in several more modules within the logistics field. There’s never a dull day and there is always a new challenge to take on, hence I’m enjoying my time. In hindsight, making the choice to study at the HZ University of Applied Sciences was indeed a positive watershed moment in my life. As students, we always had the constant support and encouragement of both the academic and administrative staff. I’d recommend anyone interested in starting a program at HZ to take the leap, it will definitely be the start of an exciting journey! Best of luck to you!”
