The research group Aquaculture Delta Areas is a research partner in the “OP-zuid project Tongkweek: Ja-Natuurlijk (sole culture). The project aims to convert the knowledge developed within the Zeeuwse Tong project (Zealand Sole project) to building blocks for a commercially viable sole culture process. It is important that this is done in a sustainable ‘zero emission’ culture system, which must be developed in such a way that residues can be converted by biological processes.
Within this project, the research group collaborates towards the development of a natural system to remove nutrients from the process water of the tongue culture by means of, for example salicornia. The project will span two years, from August 2015 to July 2017.
