The research group Aquaculture in Delta Areas is partner in the EU Horizon2020 project developing a commercial service platform for user-relevant coastal water monitoring and environmental reporting based on Earth Observation. The role of the research group Aquaculture is contribute to developing a commercial service platform specifically aimed for aquaculture users in the mussel industry. The aim is to develop food quality mapping and phytoplankton size class mapping based on satellite images. From this, a higher level product will be developed to aid mussel farmers in making strategic management decisions to optimize culture practices.
The Dutch Coast is one of the four case study areas in this project, amongst South Brittany, the Adriatic Coast and Galicia. Varying other types of products are being developed by in total 8 project partners: for example seagrass and macro algae mapping, harmful algae species and phytoplankton primary production, all based on remote sensing images. The CoastObs project runs until November 2020 and is financed by the EU Horizon2020 program. For more information: www.coastobs.eu
