In the project Aqua-Vlan 2 practical research is carried out into technical innovations in the aquaculture sector. Primarily to support companies in this sector in the border region of Flanders and the Netherlands. The research focuses on developing practical product and technology innovations, testing, integrating and optimizing processes and spreading and increasing of knowledge within the sector.
In this project HZ collaborates mostly with Ghent University, ILVO and Odissee.
HZ’s role in this project is twofold. On the one hand to do practical research for the work field:
- examining how microalgae can be cultivated in an effluent of fish and clam farms
- developing of new live and artificial (eg dry powder) food for shellfish
- developing of techniques to increase the quality of aquatic products during production. For example oysters.
On the other hand education is an important priority within this project. Existing courses will be enriched with new knowledge from the research. New forms of education through online channels are being developed. This project runs from September 1, 2016 to September 1, 2019.
