Accommodation
The number of students in Vlissingen is growing steadily due to the qualitatively good Bachelor programmes and exciting student life. When you enrol at HZ and you are looking for accommodation, Vlissingen has possibilities to find a good and affordable room. And very important, close to the university. Most student houses are near the centre of the town and at a cycling distance of HZ. You are also close to the Vlissingen boulevard and beach when you want to get a breath of fresh air.
Tips for students looking for a room
When you made your decision to study at HZ, make sure you book a room in time (preferably in the early Spring). When you apply in time, you have the best chances for the best rooms. You have several options when it comes to renting a room.
A room with the appropriate licenses
It is important that the room you apply for is located in a building, which has the appropriate (local)licenses and that the lease meets the scoring as laid down for subordinate housing.
Accommodation Portal Vlissingen
Accommodation Portal Vlissingen (APV) has an extensive range of rooms and studios. All rooms and studios are equipped with official permits issued by the City of Vlissingen and the fire department. You can let APV know your preferences and wishes regarding accommodation . Prices vary from €250 to €450 ,- per month all in, depending on the size and required comfort. L'Escaut
L'Escaut housing coorporation also leases out student rooms in Vlissingen. They are able to offer you a room at "L'Escaut campus" for the duration of five or ten months. In these 3-bedroom appartments, an internet connection will be provided. The accommodation offered is furnished and the rent is generally all-inclusive. In these student accommodation, you will have shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. The monthly rent is €300 all in. It is also important to know that, when you book a room with l'Escaut, you are requested to pay 5 months in advance plus a deposit. Other accommodation
You may want to find accommodation by yourself in the private sector. Please note that a holiday home is not considered as permanent accommodation and thus not a valid address for registration with the town register. EU students have to register with the town register before 1 October to be eligible for the normal EU-students tuition fees (€1,835). If you register after 1 October, HZ will have to demand higher tuitions fees, namely €7,950.
Note: students living in the following border regions do not have to register with the town register: Belgium, Luxemburg, Nord-Rhein-Westfalen, Niedersachsen and Bremen.
Registration with City hall
All foreign students staying in the Netherlands for a period longer than four months have to register with the town register (Gemeentelijke Basis Administratie) in the Dutch town where they temporarily reside.
You will need the following documents for the registration:
- A valid passport or valid identity card
- A legalised birth certificate
- Rental agreement or a proof of your accommodation
- Resident permit (non EU/EEA students)
Representatives of the Vlissingen town hall will be present during the Introduction Week.
